Prosferro is a Greek word, made up of two parts. ‘Pros’ means towards and ‘ferro’ means I carry, so Prosferro means ‘I bring’ or ‘I offer.’
The idea of an offering made me think of the boy who offered his lunch to Jesus up a mountain out in the wilderness, where no food was to be found. The boy was one of a crowd of 5,000 people, who had been out in a remote place all day listening to Jesus’ teaching. Most people’s food had run out and Jesus was concerned that hungry people would faint on their way back home around the lake, so He told his disciples to feed the people. The disciples had no idea how to go about such an impossible task, but one of them found the boy who had five small loaves and two small fish. From that little offering Jesus fed everyone present and the disciples collected 12 baskets of leftovers.
The Prosferro Press logo commemorates Jesus feeding the 5,000 people with an offering of 5 loaves and 2 fish. It also denotes ‘God’s Heart for Answering Prayer’ as an offering. The event is recorded for us in John’s Gospel, chapter 6, verses 1-15.
